ALLISON BRANDT NUTRITION
My Approach
A registered dietitian can help in many ways, but my overall goal is to help you nourish! I believe that true nourishment comes from adequate and consistent nutrition along with finding satisfaction and joy through our eating. Our relationship with food and our bodies can be complicated or stressful and I aim to offer support as you work through this, pursuing a peaceful, healthy relationship instead.
Rather than promoting quick-fixes or fad diets, I focus on helping you make changes that are sustainable, leading you to a healthier and happier life. While our focus will be on nutrition, my approach also includes taking a look at other lifestyle factors that contribute to health, including exercise/movement, sleep patterns, stress management, and mindfulness.
I am an anti-diet and Health At Every Size (HAES) aligned dietitian, meaning my approach does not promote restrictive practices or rigid plans. My approach is based on the framework of Intuitive Eating and I offer support for those wanting to pursue these concepts more deeply and eat more intuitively.
Additionally, I offer support for individuals suffering from an eating disorder and pursuing recovery. Full recovery from an eating disorder is possible, and you are worthy of this recovery.
My Background
I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Neuroscience and went on to study at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received my Master of Public Health in Nutrition and Dietetics. During my time at UNC, I was able to intern at various sites including with an eating disorder treatment center where I grew passionate about helping individuals in their recovery from an eating disorder. I also developed a stronger desire to offer support as individuals pursue an improved relationship with food and sustainable eating patterns.
Through years of being a nanny and experiences counseling at summer camp and leading small groups at church, I also discovered a special interest in working with adolescents as they navigate this unique period of life.
I grew up in Minnesota and have now settled in Ohio with my husband Drew. I love the Midwest and will forever call it home! I have always loved food and grew up spending a lot of time baking in the kitchen, learning from my mom. Dessert was a staple in our house! In high-school I worked at the local grocery store and still refer to it as one of my favorite jobs. I was also able to spend many Saturday mornings sorting through fruits and veggies at a food drive through my church. In college, after many changes to my major, I landed on studying the topics of science and psychology and fell in love with how they overlapped. After college, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in nutrition because it exemplified this overlap between psychology and science, where food and eating are tied to both our physical health and our emotional health. It was the perfect fit.
In my free time you’ll find me hanging out with my husband, exploring and playing outside, taking long walks, reading a good book, or working on my next embroidery project. I still prefer baking to cooking and spend too much time at the grocery store, preferably Trader Joe’s. Every day, I draw strength and encouragement through my relationship with Christ.
